About
Spanish-speaking provider
Dr. Brian Vernon has over a decade of experience providing surgical excellence in the care of degenerative spinal conditions, level 1 spine trauma, metastatic cancer of the spine, motion preservation surgery (i.e. cervical and lumbar disc replacement), and minimally invasive spine surgery. Having trained 11 years ago at the Mayo Clinic, he continues to be self-motivated by learning on a daily basis. He uses the latest advancements in spinal surgery, including robotics, navigation, and evidence-based medicine.
His clinical interests include motion preservation surgery and cervical and lumbar disc replacement. Dr. Vernon approaches each patient individually, recognizing that each person, their pain, and circumstances are unique. He presents multiple approaches to treatment, including non-surgical options and surgical treatment plans, recognizing that each option has benefits and risks. Ultimately, he treats patients honestly and makes recommendations based on the patient's best interest. His goal is for every patient to develop trust in him as a surgeon and educator, as he strives to ensure that patients are comfortable with their own understanding of their condition and plan.
Dr. Vernon has worked hard to build a reputation as a skilled, conservative surgeon with a good bedside manner and pays meticulous attention to his patient's needs before, during, and after surgery. This translates into good surgical outcomes for patients, including pain alleviation, improved function, and return to work. It makes him proud when patients are pleased with their experience and happy with their outcome.
Dr. Vernon is married to a wonderful woman, Yohanna Vernon, M.D., and has two teenage children and three dogs. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and hiking in the wilderness. The teenager in him still loves fast cars with deep growling engines and noisy exhaust pipes. He has started two successful businesses, including Alder Grove Pediatrics (where his wife works as a pediatrician) and a medical imaging company.
