Nail Conditions
Toenails may be small, but when they give us pain, it can feel debilitating. Don’t let an aching toenail condition keep you from your daily activities—make an appointment with one of our experienced podiatrists at Ogden Clinic, who are specifically trained to manage symptoms and correct toenail conditions in adults and children.
Ingrown Toenail
Ingrown toenails are condition in adults and children commonly treated by our Ogden podiatrists. It occurs when the toenail begins to grow into the soft skin surrounding it, causing tenderness and discomfort. Trimming toenails too short can cause them to ingrow, as well as toenail injury or fungal infections.
Ogden Clinic Podiatrists recommend trimming the toenails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails, however, not all ingrown toenails can be prevented. If you begin to experience severe discomfort, redness or pus that seems to be spreading from an ingrown toenail, call our Ogden Clinic Podiatry team and schedule an examination.
Your Ogden podiatrist can carefully lift and reposition the ingrown toenail to ease discomfort. Partial or full removal of the toenail is another option your Ogden Clinic Podiatrist may recommend in severe cases.
Toenail Fungus
Also called Onychomycosis, toenail fungus is unpleasant business. Fugus thrive in dark, warm, and moist environments, so your shoes and socks are the perfect breeding ground. Fungi, like bacteria, are present in and on the body naturally, but when a toenail fungus overgrowth develops, you may want to visit our Ogden Clinic Podiatry office for an examination and treatment.
This type of fungus does not penetrate deep layers of skin or enter the bloodstream, so you may choose to live with the condition. Should you choose to live with toenail fungus, an Ogden Clinic Podiatrist can expertly trim and file the nails to decrease fungal growth. For patients who want toenail fungus treatment, oral and topical medications can remedy slow-progressing fungus and prevent its reoccurrence.
