Tips for Talking to Your Primary Care Physician

Ogden Clinic primary care physicians strive to maintain ongoing relationships with our patients and their families. By maintaining a relationship with your primary care physician, you’re taking an active role in your own health. Family physicians at Ogden Clinic encourage open, thorough communication with all patients and want to ensure you understand your existing conditions, risks, and any treatment or follow-up care that is prescribed with every visit.

What should my family physician know about me?

Be sure to tell your Ogden Clinic primary care physician about your current and past health issues, as well as your concerns. Share any symptoms you are currently experiencing and your health history with your provider. Conditions that may run in your family are very important to share with your provider as well.

Share with your physician all medication and supplements you are currently taking and have taken in the past. These include prescriptions, over-the-counter medication, vitamins, supplements, and the doses for each.

The Importance of Asking Questions

Above all, do not be afraid to speak up! If you do not understand or agree with any part of your visit, it’s important to let your primary care physician know. If you don’t ask questions, your physician will assume that you have a thorough understanding. If your provider gives you follow-up instructions, ensure that you thoroughly understand the process and do not hesitate to contact your physician with any questions during your treatment.
