  • Achilles Tendon Injury Achilles tendon injury is a fairly common and painful sports injury affecting the fibrous band of tissue in behind the ankle.
  • Ankle Arthroplasty & Ankle Fusion Also known as total ankle replacement, arthroplasty a surgical procedure used to treat ankle arthritis.
  • Ankle Cartilage Defects Injury to the ankle and stretching (instability) of the ligaments can lead to a cartilage injury of the ankle joint.
  • Flat Feet & Heel Deformity Biomechanical conditions that can cause the foot to roll inwards in order to gain contact with the floor and support the weight of the body, and is the main clinical feature of excessive pronation.
  • Foot & Ankle Fractures Small cracks that occur in the bones of the foot or ankle. Treatment will depend on the location and severity of the injury.
  • Joint Injections Also known as intra-articular injections (steroid or other medication) that is injected into a joint to treat inflammatory joint conditions (arthritis, tendinitis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, etc.).
  • Laparoscopic Surgery Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, is a specialized technique for performing surgery using a laparoscope (camera and instruments) through a few small incisions.
  • Turf Toe A sprain of the main joint of the big toe. The injury usually results from excessive upward bending of the big toe joint.

Brian Powell grew up in the Provo-Orem area and attended Brigham Young University for his undergraduate education. Afterward, he went to medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and completed an Orthopedic Surgery residency at West Virginia University. Brian Powell has a special interest in conditions that affect the foot and ankle, and completed a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Powell specializes simple and complex foot and ankle problems in adults. Some of his clinical interests include:
