Carl Gray, MD

About

Working in Cancer Care since 2004, Dr. Carl Gray is one of the most experienced medical oncology practitioners in northern Utah. He is passionate about helping cancer patients through difficult treatments and celebrating with them at milestones along the way. Since cure is not always possible, helping patients have great quality of life with their chronic illness is rewarding. With recent advances in cancer care, including minimally toxic immunotherapy and targeted therapies, patients now have significantly improved quality and quantity of life. Dr. Gray and his patients become family as they develop a close relationship through hard times over many years.

After moving from Houston, Texas, at age four, Dr. Gray was raised in the beautiful city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He studied at Brigham Young University for his undergraduate education before returning to Houston with his wife to attend medical school at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

While in Houston, they had their first child, a daughter, delivered at Methodist Hospital. After medical school, Dr. Gray matched in internal medicine at UC Davis Medical Center located in Sacramento, California, where he would spend the next seven years in training (including an extra year as a Chief Resident and a combined fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology). A son and daughter joined their family while in training in Sacramento.

Dr. Gray accepted a job in Reno, Nevada, in a large private practice group serving patients from northeastern California to as far as Elko. Another son was born while in Reno. A job change prompted his move to Utah to join Utah Hematology Oncology in 2004 where he has been since. A final daughter was born in Ogden upon their arrival to Utah.

Dr. Gray learned to ski while growing up in western Alberta, spending time in locations such as Lake Louise and Banff. Utah skiing is now his favorite, especially at Snowbasin. He taught all five of his children how to ski and enjoys spending their winter days on the mountain. Another cherished hobby is making custom furniture such as dressers, beds, tables, armoires, and coffee tables. He also loves hiking with his family along the Wasatch Front and southern Utah.
