Procedure - Contraception

If you are looking for ways to prevent pregnancy, an Ogden Clinic gynecologist can recommend a variety of different options. From oral contraceptives to natural family planning, they will take the time to make sure you make the right choice in birth control. Some of these options include:

Natural Family Planning

This is the best choice for you and your partner if you can’t take contraceptives or choose not to. Some common types of natural family planning include the basal body temperature method, the cervical mucus method, and the rhythm method. By tracking these different factors, a woman can gauge the peak of her fertility each month, and refrain from having unprotected sex during those times.

Birth Control Pills

One of the most common forms of contraception is birth control pills. There are a few options for birth control pills, including continuous dosing and conventional packs. With conventional pills, you will still have a period every month. With continuous dosing, you only have a period four times a year, and sometimes not at all.

Intrauterine Devices (IUD)

IUDs like Mirena or Paragard, are inserted into the uterus by your Ogden Clinic doctor and act as a long-term contraceptive solution, without any daily hassles. If you choose to no longer use an IUD for your birth control, you will have to schedule an appointment to have it removed.

Contraceptive Implant or Injection

Contraceptive implants or injections, like Nexplanon or Depo-Provera, are a long-term birth control solution that requires hardly any daily upkeep. These types of birth control are long-lasting, but they are completely reversible and come with a number of side effects.

Sterilization

Sterilization is a permanent form of contraception. Sometimes the procedure can be reversed, but it is important to remember that it is big decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. There are sterilization options for both men and women, including a vasectomy for men and tubal ligation for women.

Emergency Contraception

Ogden Clinic patients may also consider emergency contraception options, commonly referred to as the morning-after pill. To be most effective, this pill should be taken as soon as possible following unprotected sex. Common brands are Plan B One-Step and Next Choice One-Dose.
