Upcoming Telemedicine Visit? Tips for a Successful Call

Upcoming Telemedicine Visit? Tips for a Successful Call

It’s easy to have a medical visit from the comfort of your own home. Telecare lets you speak to your provider over a live video chat using your smartphone, computer, or tablet. Many Ogden Clinic providers are currently using Telecare for various types of visits. But if you’ve never used telemedicine before, you might have questions about how to connect and have a successful call. Here are some tips to think about before your next appointment.

Connectivity Tips

You will need a device with a webcam and a microphone: A smartphone, tablet, laptop computer, or desktop computer.

Choose the right web browser:

Acceptable browsers are Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Do not use Internet Explorer (it’s not supported on our platform).

Make your connection as clear as possible:

If using a smartphone:

  • Choose a location with an unobstructed internet connection. Toggle between wifi and cell data to see which provides better connection.
  • Prior to your appointment, it’s helpful to restart your smartphone.
  • While you’re in your provider’s waiting room, avoid switching between apps.
  • If you run into poor connection during the visit, refresh the window. Don’t worry, you will remain on your call.

If using a laptop or tablet:

  • Use headphones and a mic if you have them. This will help you and your provider communicate more clearly.
  • Close out all open tabs or streaming while on your Telecare call.
  • If you run into poor connection during the visit, refresh the window. Don’t worry, you will remain on your call.

Health Info & Conversation Tips

Just like in a doctor’s office, you will first chat with one of our medical assistants before connecting with your doctor. It’s useful to have this information handy prior to your call:

  • Basic symptoms prompting the appointment
  • Recent changes to your medical chart such as chronic conditions
  • Prescriptions and over-the-counter medication you regularly take
  • Your preferred pharmacy’s address
  • Your insurance or credit card information

If Possible, These are Helpful, Too:

  • Another person: It’s good to have someone on standby to hold the phone/device, just in case your provider needs to assess movements or needs an unobstructed view of the ailment.
  • A well-lit room and limited background noise.
  • As little motion as possible: Prop your phone/tablet on a larger object or use a device stand rather than holding it.
