Spring Break Without Breaking the Bank

The weather is warming up, and your kids are beginning to look forward to one of their favorite weeks of the year – spring break! But while your kids are eager for the freedom, you might be feeling hesitant. If you’re looking for ideas to keep the kids busy without breaking the bank, then you’ve come to the right place…

  • Family picnic – make some sandwiches and head to the local park.
  • Feed the ducks – Weber State has a great duck pond, and there are several other wonderful options across northern Utah. Bread isn’t a great choice when it comes to a duck’s health; instead, consider feeding them birdseed, oats, peas or corn.
  • Fly a kite – a kite can usually be purchased for five dollars or less. Don’t let a windy day go to waste.
  • Visit a playground – consider even visiting the playground at your kids’ school; they might enjoy showing you some of the activities they do at recess.
  • Taco Tuesday – make homemade tacos and have a movie night.
  • Pool party – there are public pools across northern Utah, from North Ogden to Clearfield to Bountiful. Admission is relatively cheap. Pack up the kids and make a day of it.
  • Blanket forts – a few chairs, a handful of pillows and a couple of blankets can keep the kids entertained for hours.
  • Lemonade stand – a small table, some chairs, some cups and a pitcher of lemonade is all you need. If you want to be more crafty, click here for some fun ideas.
  • Treasure hunt – turn your home into a wilderness and send your kids on a quest.
  • Game night – you’ve probably got a dozen board games gathering dust in your closet. Brush of your copy of Monopoly® and teach the kids to play.
